Teaching a game through an anime Empty
PostSubject: Teaching a game through an anime   Teaching a game through an anime Empty2012-12-15, 03:54

If there was one thing I always appreciated about this particular anime, it was how well it taught the game. It slowly introduced different concepts in a way that didn't overly handicap the storyline (or whatever storyline there typically is in such shows) and allowed the viewer - myself - to grasp what was happening.
This included using Dragonic Overlord's effect in the early episodes to avoid having to explain Twin Drive early on, and the gradual introduction of Draw and Stand triggers, as well as a few mentions of general strategy, although nothing too in depth.

But what do you think? Does the anime teach the game effectively to any extent? Or is it misleading or a bit wanting of further explanation?

When people asked me early on where they should learn how to play, I would tell them to watch the anime.

The anime teaches you the basics and the mechanics of some clans (I didn't know that Tsukuyomi was that good until I saw Misaki stacking all her deck vs Asaka). They know how to introduce new mechanics and make the characters in the anime explain almost every move they make so you don't miss anything.

Aichi taught me to call 2 triggers to make a 10k row. Because you must always do 2 damage on your first attack.

To be fair, that lesson is followed by "if you put something on the front row in the first turn, Barkgal will stop being good". Painfully.

Hmm...putting Flogal to call Flogal to form a 10K column was pretty common for me back when I was playing Alfred with Barcgal. Of course, it would depend on which clan I was battling at the time, since against Kagero or Nova Grapplers, I would not have been able to hit had they lined up their front rows with 11K units (which kinda screws up Aqua Force's primary strategy, but that is another story).
